E3 2016 – Microsoft Xbox Briefing


Microsoft started their briefing by introducing the Xbox One S. Boasting a size 40% of the Xbox One with a starting price tag of $299, the slimmer Xbox will have up to a 2TB hard drive and offer 4K HD playback and Blu-ray. New wireless controller with a textured grip and increased wireless and bluetooth range. Available August 2016.

Phil Spencer, Head of Xbox, took the stage to welcome the audience and promise a lineup including “more choice in game-play, more innovation on Xbox Live and more exclusive games.”

Rod Fergusson, Co-Creator and Studio Head of The Coalition, announced Gears of War 4. One of the first titles available on Xbox Play Anywhere which will allow gamers to play titles on Xbox One and Windows 10 with a single purchase and achievements shared through Xbox Live. Gears of War 4 on Xbox Play Anywhere will also allow for cross-play in every mode, so gamers can play other gamers, regardless if they are playing on Xbox One or Windows 10. Killer Instinct introduces a new fighter exclusively on Xbox One and Windows 10 – Gears of War’s General Raam. Play for free this week.

Ralph Fulton, Creative Director of Playground Games introduced Forza Horizon 3 with a cross-play demo. Set in Australia packed with new terrain, vehicle types and challenges. 4-player campaign co-op with the touch of a button; player experience automatically syncs to match time of day, weather and environmental conditions. Available 9/27/16. Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive.

Hajime Tabata, Director, and Mathew Kishimoto, Sr Product Marketing Manager at Square Enix gave us a demo of Final Fantasy XV. Available 9/30/16.

From Ubisoft, Tom Clancy’s The Division: Underground will be available first on Xbox starting 6/28/16.

Patrick Bach, General Manager at DICE, gave us a look at Battlefield 1. Set against the backdrop of WWII, dynamic weather, more immersive. 10/21/16. Play first on Xbox One with EA Access, starting 10/13/16.

Mike Ybarra, Head of Platform Enginering, announcing more Xbox Live servers closer to gamers. Microsoft is committed to delivering on Xbox One backward compatibility, a new Xbox One experience and cross-network game-play. New features will include background music, Cortana, language region selection, Clubs on Xbox Live allow gamers to create communities to discuss your favorite games with fellow fans. Looking for Group on Xbox Live brings the classifieds section to Xbox – gamers can post a call looking for other gamers with a specific goal in mind. Arena on Xbox Live is a new competitive gamespace to allow easier entry to tournaments.

Minecraft announces “The Friendly Update” iOS, Android and Windows 10 cross-play. Dedicated servers and Realms allow gamers to play where you want, when you want on whatever device you want, including Oculus VR. Available today. Texture packs will be available on pocket edition and Windows 10. Add-ons coming this Fall, allow players to mod any mobs or animals, including their abilities and look.

Chris Charla, Director of ID @ Xbox, introduced INSIDE from the creators of LIMBO. Available 6/29/16. To celebrate, LIMBO will be available for free on Xbox One starting today. Charla also provided a look at a small selection of indie titles. Ark, part of Xbox Game Preview, will soon be available on Windows 10 through Xbox Play Anywhere.

Compulsion Games gave us a look at We Happy Few, available through Xbox Game Preview 7/26/16.

CD  Projekt Red announced Gwent: The Witcher Card Game, a stand-alone, multi-player card strategy game with cross-play features and an extensive single-player campaign. Sign up now for access to the closed beta, beginning in September 2016.

Bandai Namco Entertainment, Inc. brought the fight to E3 with game-play from Tekken 7. Available early 2017. Xbox Live Gold members will get free access to Tekken Tag Tournament 2 through backward compatibility this week.

A trailer for Dead Rising 4 announced the title coming Holiday 2016.

Hideki Kamiya of Platinum Games showed off a mult-player demo of Scalebound. Available 2017. Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive.

Dan Ayoub from 343 Industries announced Halo Wars 2, available 2/21/17. Xbox One and Windows 10 exclusive and available through Xbox Play Anywhere. Xbox One gamers can join the week-long beta now.

Looking forward, Xbox announced Project Scorpio as the next addition to the Xbox One family. Project Scorpio promises to be the most powerful console available at launch in 2017. With the most powerful GPU to deliver 4K gaming and high fidelity VR, Xbox aims to provide the technology gamers have been asking for to allow developers to craft more immersive game-play.
